The practical test
Around 35 minutes of driving with a DVSA examiner, on ordinary roads near your test centre. Your instructor will tell you when you are ready — we would rather you passed once than sat it three times.
How the marking works
- minutes of driving, roughly
- 35
- minor faults is the most you can have and pass
- 15
- serious or dangerous faults allowed
- 0
The examiner records any faults you make. You pass with up to 15 driving faults — the minor ones. A single serious or dangerous fault fails the test regardless of how the rest went. Your instructor will go through the marking sheet with you before the day so none of it is a surprise.
Show me, tell me
Two vehicle safety questions.
Tell me
Before you start driving. You explain how you would do something, like check the brakes or the tyres.
Show me
While you are driving. You actually do it, such as washing the windscreen or demisting the rear window.
Getting one wrong is a single driving fault, not a fail. You can still fail if your driving becomes dangerous while you answer the show me question. We cover these in your lessons at no extra cost, and the full list of questions is published by the DVSA.
What we include
- Mock tests, so the real one is not the first time
- Show me tell me tuition
